Abstract

Parents have a big role in the input of the first language or mother tongue that is taught to their children, as well as millennial parents. The millennial generation is a generation that grew up in the industrial era of technological development. This may affect the use of language. This study aims to explore the reasons that influence the use of the first language taught by parents of the Sundanese millennial generation. Millennial parents tend to teach two or three languages. Indonesian is the first language taught by many parents. They think that Bahasa is more easily by accessed language teaching. For some parents, regional languages, such as Sundanese, become a second language. In terms, parents give certain utterances outside Bahasa and Sundanese, for example in English. To express the form of rejection, the word 'no' is used more often than the word 'jangan' or ‘tidak’ in Bahasa.
