The Personality of the Main Characters in the Novel Arial & Adara Untukmu Yang Tak Lelah Berjuang by Helo Bagas: A Literary Psychology Study

Abstract

This study aims to describe the personality of the main characters and identify the factors that influence them in the novel Arial & Adara Untukmu yang Tak Lelah Berjuang by Helo Bagas. The study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods and analyzes data in the form of narrative excerpts, dialogues, and character actions using the Hippocrates-Galenus personality theory which includes sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric, and melancholic types. The results of the study show that the character Arial has a tendency towards sanguine, choleric, and melancholic personality which is seen from his friendly, caring, and resilient attitude in facing difficulties. Meanwhile, the character Adara shows a tendency towards sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric, and melancholic which is reflected through her cheerful, compassionate, brave, and empathetic nature. The personalities of both characters are influenced by internal factors, such as emotions, motivation, ways of thinking, and life experiences, as well as external factors, such as family, circle of friends, and social events. Thus, this novel not only tells the story of life's struggles, but also shows the formation of the characters' personalities through the interaction of various internal and external factors.
