in Improving Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Awareness Through the Socialization of the 5R Culture (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) Among Vocational High School Students at 5 Pekanbaru
Abstract
AbstractOccupational Safety and Health (OSH) is a crucial component of vocational education, particularly in Vocational High Schools (SMKs), where learning activities are predominantly conducted through laboratory and workshop practices that involve potential occupational hazards. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of 5R culture socialization (Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, and Rajin; equivalent to Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in improving OSH awareness among students at SMK Negeri 5 Pekanbaru. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 30 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire measuring students' knowledge and awareness of OSH before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test because the data were not normally distributed. The results revealed a substantial increase in the mean score from 48.00 in the pretest to 87.33 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test indicated a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001), demonstrating that the 5R culture socialization had a significant positive effect on students' OSH awareness. Furthermore, the N-Gain score of 0.80 was categorized as high, with an intervention effectiveness of 80%. These findings indicate that the implementation of the 5R culture enhances students' discipline, promotes occupational safety awareness, and contributes to creating a safer and more productive learning environment. Therefore, the integration of the 5R culture into practical learning activities is recommended as a sustainable strategy for strengthening OSH awareness among vocational high school students.
