Perkembangan AMGPM Ranting Sion Watmasa Tahun 1967 sampai 2001

Abstract

This study reconstructs the formation and development of the Protestant Church of Maluku (GPM) Youth Wing (AMGPM)—specifically the Sion Watmasa Branch—between 1967 and 2001. A historical method was employed, involving heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography based on organizational archives, church documents, literature, and interviews. The Sion Branch was established on July 15, 1967, through the involvement of the North Tanimbar Regional Board, the GPM Watmasa Congregation Council, the village government, customary leaders, and the youth. Organizational data indicate membership growth from 23 individuals in 1967–1968 to 206 in 1997–1998, alongside an expansion of ministry activities into the areas of ecumenism, organizational structure, and socio-economics. Its development was not linear; internal differences in the mid-1980s and the Maluku unrest in the late 1990s contributed to a weakening of programs. Nevertheless, worship services, branch meetings, and leadership succession continued. The organization's sustainability was underpinned by church networks, community support, program diversification, and adaptability. Membership figures and causal relationships require further cross-verification using master registers, meeting minutes, and cross-generational testimonies.
